Mozilla Firefox 9 speed boost to many JS heavy websites

It was just a month that beta was announced and now Mozilla has released final version for Mozilla Firefox 9. The Latest version of Mozilla Firefox fixed several stability issues and also added improved support for HTML5, MathML and CSS.

In addition to that Mozilla Firefox 9 features Type Inference that reduce execution gap in compilation for JavaScript typed language. This compilation mode, which is the default in Firefox 9, speeds up major benchmarks like Kraken and V8 by over 30%, and gives a large speed boost to many JS heavy websites.

What’s New in this release:

Added Type Inference, significantly improving JavaScript performance
Improved theme integration for Mac OS X Lion
Added two finger swipe navigation for Mac OS X Lion
Added support for querying Do Not Track status via JavaScript
Added support for font-stretch
Improved support for text-overflow
Improved standards support for HTML5, MathML, and CSS
Fixed several stability issues

Nokia makes walk and drive navigation free on its smartphones

Espoo, Finland – Nokia has today announced plans to release a new version of Ovi Maps for its smartphones that includes high-end walk and drive navigation at no extra cost, available for download at www.nokia.com/maps

. This move has the potential to nearly double the size of the current mobile navigation market. The new version of Ovi Maps includes high-end car and pedestrian navigation features, such as turn-by-turn voice guidance for 74 countries, in 46 languages, and traffic information for more than 10 countries, as well as detailed maps for more than 180 countries.

"Why have multiple devices that work in only one country or region? Put it all together, make it free, make it global and you almost double the potential size of the mobile navigation market ," explained Anssi Vanjoki, Executive Vice President, Nokia. "Nokia is the only company with a mobile navigation service for both drivers and pedestrians that works across the world. Unlike the legacy car navigation manufacturers, we don’t make you buy maps for different countries or regions even if you’re only visiting for a few days. We offer both navigation and maps free of charge, with all the high-end functionality and features that people now expect."

Ovi Maps is immediately available for download for 10 Nokia handsets, including the popular Nokia N97 mini, Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and Nokia E72, with more Nokia smartphones expected to be added in the coming weeks. In the meantime, current owners of Nokia smartphones that are compatible with the new Ovi Maps can download it free of charge from www.nokia.com/maps

From March 2010, new Nokia GPS-enabled smartphones will include the new version of Ovi Maps, pre-loaded with local country map data, with high-end walk and drive navigation and access to Lonely Planet and Michelin travel guides at no extra cost.

Ovi Maps covers more than 180 countries with car and pedestrian navigation for 74 countries in 46 languages and 6000 3D landmarks for 200 cities around the world. Lonely Planet and Michelin guides have information on more than 1,000 destinations globally.

Create GodMode Folders in Windows 7 or Vista using GodMode Creator

Recently, a new word called “ GodMode “ buzzed on many blogs, news websites, tweets, Windows based Forums etc.

Actually, What is GodMode ?

Windows has a set of certain folders which are identified by unique strings referred to as CLSID or Windows Class Identifiers. These folders can be accessed by using the CLSID identifier codes that Windows assigns to each individual folder in the Windows Registry. If you know the codes, you can launch these with ease. This term is referred as “GodMode” by some journalist or blogger.

For example:

So, if you wanted to create all GodMode folder of your Windows 7 or Windows vista, you can use a small freeware utility created by Ritesh and published by The Windows Club called GodMode Creator.

GodMode Creator lets you create 38 “GodModes” in Windows 7 & Vista, 32-bit, with a click.

In short, GodModes are nothing but developer shortcuts built into Windows 7 & Vista, that enable easy access to certain settings and information about the operating system.

Using GodMode Creator, you can create these shortcuts easily. Simply click on the desired button and it will create the Special Folder or “GodMode” shortcuts on your desktop.

Recently, Windows Valley owned by Ramesh Kumar has released Windows 7 themepack called “I’m Windows 7 PC” designed by Ganesh. It is combination of 4 wallpapers, inbuilt sound scheme Festival. All four wallpapers have different Windows flag color with tag line ‘I’M Windows 7 PC’ and mark of ‘7’.

Note: To install, just download and run the .themepack file on your Windows 7 desktop. The wallpapers are set to change every 30 minutes, but feel free to choose your own.

Today The Windows Club has released FixWin, a 529kb freeware portable application to repair & fix common windows annoyances & issues. FixWin as a single utility was conceptualized, to fix some of the common annoyances which may be faced by a Windows user.

Does your Recycle Bin not refresh correctly? Or maybe you find that for some reason your right click context menu has been disabled in Internet Explorer! Or perhaps things are not fine with your Windows Media Center and you need to flush & rebuild Windows Media Center database! Maybe you opted to be not-warned while deleting Sticky Notes and you now want the warning dialog box back! Or then perhaps, post a malware attack you find that your task manage or cmd or your Registry Editor has been disabled! Fixes for these and many more such common Windows problems are being offered here.

The solutions to repair and fix 50 common Windows annoyances, issues & problems have been categorized under 5 tabs, viz : Windows Explorer, Internet & Connectivity, Windows Media, System Tools & Misc Additional Fixes.

How to use this application:

1. We first suggest that you run the System File Checker Utility. The button provided on the Welcome page, will ‘run sfc /scannow‘ and will check for and replace any corrupted Windows system files. It is expected to take anywhere from 5-10 minutes. If asked to, do reboot.

2. Next we insist that you create a System Restore Point. The provided button will create one, called Safe Point. We always recommend that you create one before making any changes to your system. Should you wish or need too, you can always go back to this Safe Point.

How to Prevent cut, paste, copy, delete, re-naming of files & folders

Today we have always worried about security , because there’s someone who wants to Harm you by stealing your data in your absence. By using a small but powerful utility you can make secure your data. Prevent v 1.0 (developed by TWC Forum member, Ritesh Kawadkar for TheWindowsClub ) is a freeware app which runs on all Windows. If you don’t want anyone deleting or renaming or messing around with your data, maybe your younger sibling, then Prevent may be able to help you.

What it Prevents ?

1. Stops Cut
2. Stops Paste
3. Stops Copy
4. Stops Delete
5. Stops Copy To
6. Stops Move to
7. Stops Send To
8. Prevents renaming
9. Disables Task Manager’s End Process button. Also it doesn’t allow you to right click on process name and click on end process. It also grays out the context menu items, disable Ctrl+C, Ctrl+X and Ctrl+V and/or stops the process.

To uninstall or remove Prevent, use the Uninstaller situated in the Prevent folder, or uninstall it via the Control Panel or simply delete its Program folder.

Windows 7 RTM Available Now for MSDN & TechNet Subscribers

As we previously announced, Microsoft has released Windows 7 RTM for MSDN & TechNet Subscribers. Its now available for download on MSDN & TechNet in English Language.

On October 1st, the remaining languages will be released and available to download.

The VideoLAN project has the released the first version of the Goldeneye branch of VLC: 1.0.0. This major release introduces many new features, new formats and new codecs to the VLC multimedia framework and fixes a very high number of bugs that were present in the 0.9.x or 0.8.6 versions.

VLC media player is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, …) as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It doesn’t need any external codec or program to work.
