Microsoft Silverlight client for Facebook is a cool way to explore your Facebook account. The Microsoft Silverlight 4 Beta Client for Facebook has been released few months ago as a developer preview sample. In order to use it you must have Silverlight 4 developer builds installed.

Using Silverlight client you can see a full time line from your feed, pictures, video and Facebook notifications. You’re also able to drag and drop pictures to easily share with Facebook friends.

This application brings together the many compelling platform capabilities of Silverlight 4 into a rich out-of-browser application in the familiar context of Facebook.
Enjoy the photos, feeds, events, friends’ walls, and inbox mail from your Facebook account in an appealing and user-friendly environment.

Note: Silverlight Client for Facebook is a Silverlight 4 developer preview application. When Silverlight 4 is finally released you may be required to uninstall and re-install the plugin.

Microsoft Security Development Lifecycle (SDL)

With the rapid increments in use of Application Softwares, the Attacks are also increased that poses a significant threat to your information. A poorly developed application can open your system to attacks. So, the SDL Network was created by Microsoft to reduce software maintenance costs by increasing reliability of softwares and to address the challenges developers are facing with the increasing shift of attacks to the application layer.

This concepts were formed with the Trustworthy Computing (TwC) directive of January 2002. At that time, many software development groups at Microsoft instigated “security pushes” to find ways to improve the security of existing code.

Since 2004, Microsoft Security Development Life Cycle(SDL) is mandatory software development policy for all products with meaningful business risk and/or access to sensitive data and SDL was designed as an integral part of the development process.

Security Development Process (SDL) Process :

Secure by Design; Secure by Default; Secure in Deployment; and Communications (SD3+C) were guiding principle defined by Microsoft to guide the creation and support of more secure software.The SDL brings these principles to life, by integrating them into every step of the software development lifecycle

There are total 7 Development Phase of SDL activities:

Training : Get informed about security basics and recent trends in security and privacy.
Requirements: Analyzing security and privacy risk , Defining quality gates
Design : Threat modeling , Attack surface analysis
Implementation: Specifying tools, Enforcing banned functions, Static analysis
Verification: Dynamic/Fuzz testing , Verifying threat models and attack surface
Release: Response plan ,making Final security review , Releasing archive
Response: Response execution

1983

September: The first version of Microsoft Word 1.0 for MS-DOS is released. It becomes the first word processor to make extensive use of the computer mouse.

1985

January: Microsoft Word 1.0 for Macintosh and Word 2.0 for DOS are released.

September: Microsoft Excel 1.0 for Macintosh is released. It is designed to take advantage of the enhanced power of the Macintosh. Excel offers features such as interactive spreadsheet linking and two-way file compatibility with Lotus 1-2-3.

1986

September: Microsoft announces Microsoft Works for Macintosh, which integrates word processing, spreadsheet, database, communications, and drawing functions into a single program.

October: Microsoft Word 3.0 for Macintosh (there was no version 2.0) and Word 3.0 for DOS are released.

1987

July: Microsoft Corp. acquires Forethought, the original application software company behind PowerPoint 1.0, for $1.4 million.

September: Microsoft PowerPoint 1.0 for Macintosh is announced. In its first year of sales, PowerPoint 1.0 for Macintosh hits $1 million.

1988

May: Microsoft ships PowerPoint 2.0 for Macintosh.

1989

June: Office 1.0 for the Macintosh debuts on both standard disks and CD-ROM. It includes newly available Word 4.0, Excel 2.2 and PowerPoint 2.01. This release is a significant step toward the seamless application integration that becomes the hallmark of later versions of Office.

1990

May: PowerPoint 2.0 for Windows is announced. This first version for Windows offers color options.

October: Office 1.0 for Windows is available and includes Excel 2.0, Word 2.1 and PowerPoint 2.0.

Microsoft becomes the first personal computer software company to exceed $1 billion in sales in a single year, with revenues of $1.18 billion.

1991

January: Microsoft announces the availability of Microsoft Excel for Windows 3.0 — the first major release to include toolbars.

October: Word 2.0 for Windows is the first version to offer drag-and-drop capabilities.

1992

August: Office 3.0 for Windows is available and includes recently released Microsoft PowerPoint 3.0 in combination with Microsoft Word for Windows 2.0 and Microsoft Excel 4.0.

November: Microsoft Access 1.0 for Windows is announced at Fall COMDEX. The new full-featured and fully relational database management system (DBMS) provides transparent access to data, usability-tested tools and a robust development cycle.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that. And we like the excellent battery life, second only to Asus’ Netbooks. So, if extra-long battery life is more important to you than HP’s big keyboard (although the NC10′s keyboard isn’t bad either), Lenovo’s expansion slot, or Dell’s customization options (no SDD or Linux options here, for example), then you’ll be pleased that Samsung finally decided to sell its wares stateside.

Next to HP’s Mini 1000, the Samsung NC10 has the best Netbook keyboard we’ve seen. The slightly tapered keys (which Samsung claims are 93 percent as big as a full-size keyboard) are easy to use, and no important keys have been shuffled around to inconvenient places (although the Tab key is half-size). The touchpad, on the other hand, is hard to use. It’s long but very narrow (only a little more than 1-inch high), which makes scrolling vertically through long Web pages or documents cumbersome.

When it comes to the keyboard, the NC10 easily bests those on the MSI Wind and Eee PC 1000H. The 93 percent–full size layout is comfortable, and the raised keys provided nice tactile feedback. Unlike the Eee PC 1000H, the panel didn’t flex at all. The feel of the keys and the size of the keyboard isn’t all the NC10 has got going for it: unlike the 1000H and the Wind, the key positioning of the NC10 is near perfect. The right Shift key is full size and directly below the Enter key. When typing this review in WordPad we rarely mistyped words.

Short Summary from CNET

The good: Excellent battery life; decent, nearly full-size keyboard.

The bad: Bland design with no outstanding extras; too-small touchpad.

The bottom line: The Samsung NC10 is a completely average Netbook in every way, but we like its keyboard and love its long-running battery.

It was a 6 month ago that i had lost my 500 GB Internal HDD containing other important document as it was fallen down just from 2 feet. The height was small but the result was a big Disaster in my life.

Zoozoo: Vodafone’s new Ads

In 2008, Vodafone had unveiled the ‘Happy to Help’ series during the first season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). With the launch of the second season, Vodafone has given birth to the Zoozoo: a special character created specifically to convey a value added service (VAS) offering in each of the newly released commercials.

What’s interesting is that there are some 25 such commercials planned under this campaign, 10 of which are already on air. The aim is to release approximately one ad a day, to sustain interest till the end of the IPL.

Some find them akin to aliens; others insist they are animated cartoon characters, while a third bunch doesn’t quite know what to make of it.

No, they aren’t animated characters. They are human beings who were made to wear body suits. “The design of the characters is such that one gets fooled into thinking it is animation,” shrugs Rao, which was indeed the very illusion that had to be created. “In a sense, it is ‘live’ animation!” he quips, referring to the fact that it was all shot live.

Six months ago, Vodafone briefed its agency, Ogilvy India, to create uncommon characters – a common thread to link the ads in the campaign together. Rajiv Rao, executive creative director, South Asia, Ogilvy India, tells afaqs! that the only starting point for the team was that the character had to be simple to a stupefying level. And thus, the Zoozoo was born.
